Today, May 5th, is National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited People (MMIWG2S). ❤♥
May 5th is also known as Red Dress Day.
Métis artist Jaime Black created the REDress Project which inspired Red Dress Day. Jaime Black displayed an empty, hanging, red dress in response to there being more than one thousand (1000) missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada.
We honour those who have not returned home by:
– Wearing red
– Displaying an empty red dress (in a window)
– Speaking up and advocating
– Educating yourself and others (about MMIWG2S)
– Participating in local events commemorating this day
– Being respectful
– Supporting the Indigenous community
