“Badge is a humpback whale I have been watching for nearly a decade, and he loves to show off his tail. He spends many summers just off the coast of Brier Island. This photo was taken without a zoom lens — yes, without a zoom. Badge was right beside the boat, powerfully thrashing his tail. It’s difficult to truly describe what a 12–15-foot tail looks like at eye level, moving with more force than a person could ever imagine.”
